Hello Folks,
I hope this email finds you well. Please find our updates about the re-opening of the Broome Street Temple, Intro Classes, December schedule, and other news below.
1. The Broome Street Temple: we are days away from signing the lease on the temple and hope to be able to re-open for temple activities and yoga classes by mid-December... but it may be as late as January 1st. We'll keep you posted. We are looking forward to being back in our old home, where so many great things happened. And just to clarify, we are not re-opening a yoga school, we are
re-opening the Ganesh Temple. The Temple will hold the lease and maintain the space. I'll rent space from the temple to teach some yoga classes... but there will be a lot of other things happening in there, and yoga will be just one of them. It's going to be something new, something different, and something evolving from where we left off in 2015 when we left to spend a couple of years in the far-off land of Brooklyn.
The Temple will support itself on donations, programs, and some of the merchandise that I really enjoy making and creating. We are starting off with just a few, basic things: a Broome Street Temple Varsity Jacket, the Broome Street Temple Ramones Tees, and our over-sized, virtually indestructible carry bags, made in Mysore. Photos and links to all of those are below.
Our next temple program will be Gita Jayanthi, celebrating the day when Sri Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. We will honor this occasion by chanting the entire Gita along with a fire ceremony. Information on that is send out through the Broome Street Temple mailing list, which can be joined here.
2. Intro to Ashtanga Yoga Classes: While Sonal and Sandeep are in Mysore, Paloma Tamayo Almada will take over the Four-Week intro class, and also add in a once per week Intro class in Spanish. You can sign up for either in English or Spanish here. Yoga as a holiday gift is the gift that keeps giving, btw... and Paloma is a great teacher, you'll love her!
3. December Schedule: we will be following the same schedule as last month, with no classes between December 21st and New Years. We hope to have a few in-person classes before we close for the winter holidays. Please note, the online classes that we have at 6:30am and 7am will continue as usual even when we begin doing in-person again.
The in-person classes will be at 8:30am, and we will see about an earlier 5:30am self-practice shift for those who wish to come in early. The one-hour asana, one-hour ashtanga, and pranayama will all have an online or in-person option. Online will continue as donation based, and in-person will be per-class or monthly fee options. Easy! Online schedule with links will go up on November 30th. If you haven't donated for classes in a while, you can do so here.
4. Namarupa Yatra: Robert Moses has been leading us through on online yatra of sacred temples in India with special guests. I'll be joining on December 4th for an Ashta Vinayaka yatra, taking a virtual tour of the eight Ganapati Tirthas of Maharastra. Information for that can be found here.
Broome Street Temple Holiday Gift Ideas
Note on all items: this is a small operation. I currently do all of the shipping and packing myself. If there is a problem with your order (like you got the wrong size t-shirt), I will send you the right one immediately. We have had long shipping delays with COVID, but will provide you with a tracking number, so some patience may be necessary :) If anything gets lost in the mail, we will replace
it with a new item - except the Varsity jackets, which will be shipped by DHL with insurance, tracking, and if requested, signature required to insure a safe delivery.
Broome Street Temple Varsity Jacket
This is the most expensive piece we've ever made, but also one of the coolest. It is warm enough for late fall and winter, made of faux leather sleeves, wool body, and a quilted on the inside. The G is of course for Ganesh, with a large heart, and peace sign on the front chest and pockets. The left sleeve says 430 (our address) and the right sleeve, a yin-yang for balance and harmony. The back of the jacket says "Broome St.", and we
can customize to add your name or initials to the front or back of the jacket. I love mine, and have worn it even has the weather drops here in NYC, and it's super warm.
Each one of these are custom ordered and made, and delivery is 4-6 weeks in the States, 6-8 weeks in Europe. I am sorry, we can currently not fulfill orders to Australia because of shipping costs.
Broome Street Temple Tote
Made in Mysore, this is a durable, oversized carry bag that can fit your yoga mat, yoga props, clothing, a few kittens, a puppy and an extra tire for your car in it all at the same time. In all seriousness, this is a great bag. We've made the handles extra long to fit over your shoulders for carrying heavier loads, and the wider base of the bag lets you carry things that are sometimes oddly shaped and don't fit into a standard carry bag. It's waterproof,
heavyweight, and of course looks super cool, cause that's how we roll. These are in stock and ready to ship!
Broome Street Temple Tees
Seriously, this is the last run on neon pink. We were going to stop after the last pre-order, but folks keep saying they missed out - and we don't want you to miss out on anything. FU, FOMO. So here they are again, till the end of the year! (We've redone the white on black too - both will be in stock by December 10th.) If you are ordering from Europe, they will not reach you in time for the holidays, but will arrive in mid-January.
That's all for now! Thanks for staying tuned, and more to follow later this month.
Best,
Eddie
